Who: the trainers Ian Young is Ian Young is undertaking the role of MC during refreshment breaks and lunch during Recovery Plus, on 20 May, lending laughter and spirits. He is founder of Sober Services on which he has been focused since 2008, previously founded two large rehabilitation facilities, and continues to offer business and marketing consultancy to a selection of centres. He has been in recovery since 2001, aged 29, after 13 years of chronic drug addiction, alcoholism, homelessness and unemployment. One of the UK’s best known interventionists, he designed the Sober Body-Guide method of assistance and pioneered sober transportation in Europe and South Africa. Robin Lefever has a BSc in Psychology from the University of Kent and is the managing director of Promis Clinics. A leading researcher in the field of addiction, Robin has studied addiction treatment for over 20 years, publishing numerous articles and papers in international scientific journals. Robin is also a skilled therapist and his clinical interests include a wide range of therapies including EMDR, NLP, EAP, Psychodrama, CBT, DBT, Sand Play, Ropes Course, Family Therapy and Intervention. Dr John McMahon has been involved in the alcohol and drug field for 40 years. His current occupation is using the internet to reach people who want/need help with their own or other people’s drinking. For 12 years, he was senior lecturer in alcohol and drugs at the Centre for Alcohol and Drug Studies, University of the West of Scotland and Research fellow at the University of Glasgow before that. He set up and wrote the MSc in Alcohol and Drug Studies as the UK’s largest distance learning course; he taught GPs, psychologists, social workers and alcohol and drug counsellors at MSc and PhD level. He was chair of the National Alcohol Counsellor Training scheme for Scotland and consulted for Health Boards, Local Authorities and more. Johnmonths. He has been clean and sober since 1984. Karrim Rahman BA(HONS) DTC, CRW, LCSP(PHYS), APBMD, CRZ will be giving head and shoulder massages throughout the day at Recovery Plus. He has been practising remedial massage for over 20 years, using massage and manipulation, therapeutic massage, reﬂexology, Tui Na, counselling and relaxation techniques, including for sports/joint injuries. He qualiﬁed first in law and his early career was in local government, then social work and ﬁnally therapeutic work. Remedial massage involves deep-tissue techniques to assist the client’s body to return to normal functioning. Deep-seated tension can be released, deposits and scar tissue broken down, and nerves freed, clearing pain and enhancing blood/lymphatic circulation.
